Situation in Baltistan improving: Minister Information
Skardu -- Caretaker Minister for Information and Broadcasting Gilgit - Baltistan, Ghulam Abbas, has said that following the martyrdom of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Syed Ali Hosseini Khamenei, unfortunate incidents occurred in Gilgit - Baltistan, particularly in Baltistan, which turned the situation tense and alarming within a few hours.
He said the incidents resulted in the loss of precious lives and damage to important military installations as well as public and private property, creating serious threats to law and order in Baltistan.
Ghulam Abbas said the situation improved significantly due to the timely intervention of the government and the full cooperation of religious scholars. He particularly acknowledged the patience and wisdom shown by Syed Baqir Al-Hussaini and his team in helping restore calm.
According to him, Baltistan’s caretaker ministers including Health Minister Dr Niaz Ali, Information Minister Ghulam Abbas, Adviser for Social Development and Youth Affairs Fatima Syed Mousavi, and Local Government Minister Engineer Lataf Hussain remained in continuous contact with religious leaders, the caretaker chief minister, cabinet members, civil administration and security institutions.
He said the cooperation of women leaders, military leadership and patriotic citizens also helped foil the designs of miscreant elements.
The minister added that Caretaker Chief Minister Justice Yar Muhammad and his team from Gilgit, including Interior Minister Sajid Baig, Forest Minister Hafiz Sharafuddin, Tourism Minister Adil Shah, Education Minister Bahadar Ali and Food Minister Mehrdad, stayed in Skardu for three days and held meetings with religious scholars, community elders and women leaders.
He said these engagements strengthened trust between the public, government, administration and military leadership, and helped remove misunderstandings and doubts.
Ghulam Abbas said life in Baltistan, particularly in Skardu, is gradually returning to normal. Madaris, offices and markets are reopening.
He expressed hope that the situation would fully normalize from March 12, with curfew expected to be lifted and flight operations, communication networks and business activities likely to resume.
