Gilgit Bar Council demands release of detained lawyer

Gilgit -- The Gilgit-Baltistan Bar Council has expressed serious concern over the detention of Advocate Ehsan by local police authorities and demanded his immediate release.

In a press statement issued on March 11, 2026, the Bar Council said the arrest of a practicing lawyer without transparent legal justification raises serious questions and has created anxiety within the legal community.

The statement said members of the legal fraternity deserve due respect and must be treated strictly in accordance with the law and established legal procedures. The council stressed that the rights and dignity of advocates must be fully protected.

The Bar Council urged the concerned authorities and police officials to immediately clarify the circumstances surrounding the detention of Advocate Ehsan and ensure that his legal rights are respected.

It further demanded the immediate release of the detained lawyer, stating that any action undermining the independence and dignity of the legal profession cannot be tolerated.

The Gilgit-Baltistan Bar Council said it stands firmly with its member and will continue to closely monitor the situation to safeguard the rights of lawyers and uphold the rule of law.
