Nearly 2,000 Project Employees Await Salaries for Four Months in GB

GILGIT: Nearly 2,000 project employees across Gilgit-Baltistan have gone without salaries for four months as administrative friction and procedural delays continue to paralyze development operations in the region.

“We are facing severe financial distress,” said one affected worker. “With compounding inflation and unpaid wages, meeting basic household expenses, purchasing essential medicines, and paying our children’s school fees has become nearly impossible.”

Official sources confirm that documentation required to disburse development funds under the Annual Development Programme (ADP) has been finalized. However, the creation of additional oversight committees and complex administrative formalities have stalled payments, severely impacting both the workforce and ongoing infrastructure projects.

In total, 2,962 public sector personnel are affected by the deadlock, comprising 1,978 project staff and 984 regular contract employees.

The ongoing delay has intensified public scrutiny regarding the administration's capacity to resolve critical governance and administrative bottlenecks.
