Minister And Chairman Visit Diamer Basha Dam
Kohistan - Chilas: Federal Minister for Water Resources Mian Muhammad Moeen Wattoo and WAPDA Chairman Lt Gen (retd) Muhammad Saeed visited the Diamer-Bhasha Dam and Dasu Hydropower Project on Wednesday to review construction progress.
During briefings by project teams, consultants and contractors, the minister stressed the importance of both projects for Pakistan’s water, food and energy security and called for their timely completion in line with stipulated quality standards.
At Dasu, the minister also inaugurated the 225-metre-long Barseen Bridge, an arch reinforced-concrete bridge on the relocated Karakoram Highway (RKKH-1).
The 20.4-kilometre RKKH-1 is being built under the Dasu Hydropower Project according to CPEC standards and is expected to open to traffic by February 2027.
Upon completion, Diamer-Bhasha Dam is expected to store 8.1 million acre-feet (MAF) of water and generate 4,500 megawatts (MW) of electricity. Dasu Hydropower Project will generate 4,320 MW in two stages, each with a capacity of 2,160 MW.
