Illegal riverbank construction demolished, landowner fined

Gilgit: A joint team of the Gilgit - Baltistan Environmental Protection Agency, GB EPA, and the district administration of Tehsil Danyore demolished an illegally constructed protective band along the River Hunza near the RCC Bridge at Sultanabad during an inspection on Monday.

Officials said the inspection revealed that a landowner had encroached on the riverbank and built a protective wall without authorization, posing a serious risk to the safety and structural integrity of the RCC bridge.

Authorities further found that the individual had also constructed an unauthorized pond by building a temporary bridge inside the river to transport construction material, obstructing the natural flow of the river.

Considering the environmental and safety risks, the illegal protective band was immediately removed and the responsible individual was fined under the relevant regulations.

Officials said strict action would continue against illegal encroachments and activities that threaten the environment and public infrastructure.
